Objective of Life - How to Explain

Objective of life (draft guideline)

*how to explain & the points to be followed while giving dawa'

Reality: In today’s liberal capitalist society, individuals are obsessed about material
gains and instinctual satisfaction. We see individuals going to great lengths, often
illegal and immoral, to gain money and at the same time we see youth who have
gone to serious extremes, experimenting with drugs and promiscuity to gain the
most instinctual pleasure that they can possibly get. Even the “decent” section of
the youth are immersed in their studies and careers and are desperate to go up the
“social ladder”. The end result is, we have a dysfunctional society, where people are
not happy with their lives….lives they so desperately want to perfect. Depression,
suicide, crimes of all shades, drug abuse and other social malaise are common.

Corrupt concept: This type of lifestyle, where the individual only seeks to attain
wealth and instinctual satisfaction is a result of a viewpoint on life that is
myopic……a viewpoint which only values the limited lifespan that we have and the
temporary existence which we live. A viewpoint which attaches no link with the life
of this world with what preceded life or what comes after it and gives man the
illusion that he is “free”. As a result man is pushed to satisfy his desires as he
pleases, without any accountability in any manner that he sees fit. The result of this
is a society where man’s behavior is unregulated. In addition to this, man, in his
quest to quench his thirst for material and instinctual pleasures, ends up in
torment…in absolute disarray, since he can never be satisfied with whatever he
already possesses. Finally, in all his efforts to divulge in the pleasures and the
benefits of this world, man finally passes away when his time comes and leaves
with nothing but disappointment about what he couldn’t achieve and an uncanny
fear about what lies ahead in the “next”world……..a world which he has ignored all
hislife.

Correct concepts: Truth is, man’s life is limited………this world being only a
temporary dwelling. His life passes in front of his eyes……all his hopes and dreams
amount to nothing while he lies in his death bed. This life, being limited and finite,
must be viewed in respect to what comes before it and what comes after it. When
man holds such a view, he leads his life in an organized manner, as ordained by the
Creator…..not divulging in cheap material pleasures or pursuit of wealth but rather
in the pleasure of the Creator. He sees his life as a gateway to the next…a life which
is eternal and everlasting and whose pleasures are satisfying. He realizes the
temporary nature of this world and looks at it through different eyes…..through the
eyes of accountability to the Creator. This leads not only to men who live with
tranquility…but also a society where there is harmony and organization.

Motivation:Allah said in the Quran

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.[AzZariyat 56]

Therefore we must spend this life in pursuit of what pleases our Creator, a pursuit which will grant us eternal happiness…….rather than a pursuit of temporary short sighted gains which will only
add up to our misery. And in order to do that we must implement all the hukms of
the Creator, both individual, and societal and political.
